A provincial delegation led by Nguyễn Tuấn Thanh, standing vice chairman of the Gia Lai People’s Committee, met bureau representatives in Japan on October 19 to discuss investment, trade and technology cooperation.
Gia Lai hosts 19 Japanese-invested projects with total registered capital of approximately $234 million, spanning high-tech agriculture, industrial production, processing and renewable energy.
During the talks, Thanh outlined the province’s investment environment, economic strengths and development priorities. Gia Lai is seeking investment in five main areas:
- Processing and manufacturing, renewable energy and artificial intelligence applications.
- High-tech agriculture linked to advanced processing.
- Logistics connecting border gates with seaports.
- Ecotourism, resorts and cultural tourism.
- Modern, smart urban development.
The delegation asked METI Kansai to help connect the province with investors, develop supporting industries and facilitate access to technologies for environmental management and energy efficiency.
It also sought cooperation in processing technology, logistics and trade promotion.
Tourism was another focus, with Gia Lai requesting connections with Japanese organisations and businesses involved in tourism, accommodation management and international visitor markets.
METI Kansai representatives said the region had many companies with advanced technologies and an interest in expanding international cooperation, particularly in Asia.
The bureau, which operates under Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, supports industrial development and businesses across seven provinces in Kansai.
The region is a major economic and industrial centre, with strengths in manufacturing, machinery, chemicals and high-tech equipment.
Bureau representatives outlined cooperation with the Team E-Kansai network to promote environmental technologies and energy-saving solutions in countries including Vietnam.
They also presented technologies for eco-industrial parks, covering renewable energy, greenhouse gas emissions reductions, wastewater reuse, waste treatment, the use of industrial by-products and environmental monitoring.
METI Kansai said it was prepared to consider jointly organising seminars and connecting Japanese companies with Gia Lai to present technologies suited to the province’s needs.
The bureau also expressed its intention to establish a contact point, strengthen information exchanges and help Kansai businesses explore investment and commercial opportunities in Gia Lai.
