Gia Lai attracted 218 new investment projects with total registered capital exceeding VND192.719 trillion ($7.41 billion) in the first nine months of 2026, setting a new record for the province, according to the provincial Investment Promotion and Support Task Force.

The number of new projects was 28.23% higher than the 170 projects targeted by the Provincial People's Committee for the whole of 2026 and rose 51.39% year on year.

Total registered investment capital increased 147.07% from the same period a year earlier.

Existing investors also increased their commitments, with 86 projects recording additional capital of VND11,700.71 billion ($450 million) compared with their initial commitments.

The industrial sector accounted for the largest share of both new projects and registered capital, with 113 projects worth more than VND153,668 billion ($5.91 billion).

Agriculture, forestry and fisheries ranked second, with 55 projects and more than VND14,258 billion ($548.4 million), while trade, services and tourism attracted 22 projects with total registered capital of VND7,932.8 billion ($305.1 million).

Other sectors, including information technology, port and logistics services, healthcare, and scientific research and technology development, also recorded multiple new projects with substantial registered investment.

Investment activity has also shifted geographically. Of the 218 new projects, 196 were registered by enterprises outside economic zones and industrial parks, with total investment exceeding VND182,138 billion ($7.01 billion).

The remaining 22 projects were located within economic zones and industrial parks, with investment of more than VND10,581 billion ($407 million).

The distribution of new projects across localities has enabled 113 of the province's 153 communes and wards to meet or exceed their 2026 investment attraction targets set by the Provincial People's Committee.

The trend also presents a challenge for technical infrastructure investors in Gia Lai's industrial parks, which are tasked with attracting 46 new projects during 2026.
