The event was attended by Nguyễn Thị Thanh Lịch, a member of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Committee, alongside representatives of provincial departments and agencies, local authorities of Tây Sơn commune, and members of the Bùi family clan in Phú Xuân.
The ceremony followed traditional rites, featuring ceremonial drumming, ritual music and the reading of a eulogy highlighting the life and achievements of Admiral Bùi Thị Xuân.
Born in Xuân Hòa village, Tuy Viễn district, Quy Nhơn prefecture, now Phú Xuân quarter, Tây Sơn commune, Bùi Thị Xuân showed exceptional martial ability from a young age. Together with her husband, Trần Quang Diệu, she joined the Tây Sơn insurgent army.
She was best known for her military skills, particularly her mastery in training war elephants and commanding elephant troops in battle. Her contributions played a significant role in King Quang Trung (Nguyễn Huệ)’s campaigns to overcome internal and external foes and unify the country more than two centuries ago.
During the commemoration, delegates offered incense to honor and express gratitude to one of Vietnam’s most prominent female military figures.
