Vietnam has launched its first-ever “Outstanding smoke-free hotels” ranking for 2025, honoring pioneering accommodation establishments that create smoke-free service environments and promote healthier tourism.

The initiative, announced by Văn hóa Newspaper in coordination with the Tobacco harm prevention fund and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST), seeks to protect public health and enhance the image of Vietnam’s tourism as safe, friendly and civilized.

Hotels taking part will be assessed on a 100-point scale covering compliance with smoking bans, designated smoke-free areas, guest communication, supervision mechanisms, innovative models, and customer feedback.

Vietnam launches 2025 smoke-free hotel ranking to promote public health, boost tourism image, and honor pioneering accommodation providers.

Applications are open from October 3 to November 10 for all hotels rated three stars or higher. Required documents include a participation form, self-assessment, commitment letter, and supporting evidence, submitted online via baovanhoa.vn or directly to Văn hóa Newspaper in Hanoi.

Results will be announced from December 1 to 8 on MoCST’s portal, tourism associations, provincial websites, and social media channels including Facebook and YouTube. The closing ceremony and certificate presentation are scheduled for December 30, 2025.

Organizers said the ranking supports Vietnam’s enforcement of the Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harm, as well as its obligations under the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC).

The program’s long-term goal is to build a nationwide smoke-free hotel movement, cut healthcare costs, improve accommodation standards, and promote Vietnam’s reputation as a green and sustainable destination.

It also aims to safeguard citizens’ rights to healthy living environments, encourage smokers to quit, and give tourists greater confidence when choosing Vietnam.
