Women entrepreneurs’ groups on Friday launched a “Zero-Cost Supermarket” programme in Gia Lai province to support residents affected by storms and floods in 2025, providing direct assistance through shopping vouchers for essential goods.

The initiative was organised by the Gia Lai Provincial Women Entrepreneurs Association in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Women Entrepreneurs Association and the Gia Lai Provincial Women’s Union.

The event drew leaders of women entrepreneurs’ organisations and representatives of the provincial women’s union, along with numerous businesswomen from both localities.

At the programme, the Ho Chi Minh City Women Entrepreneurs Association presented VND 300 million (about USD 12,200) to its Gia Lai counterpart to implement the “Zero-Cost Supermarket” model.

The funding was used to issue supermarket vouchers, each valued at VND 500,000 (around USD 20), allowing affected residents to select essential items based on their families’ needs.

In the first phase, 100 vouchers were distributed to households in areas hardest hit by the disasters. Organisers said a total of 600 vouchers will be provided under the programme.

Speaking at the event, Cao Thi Ngoc Dung, Vice President of the Vietnam Association for Women Entrepreneurs and President of the Ho Chi Minh City Women Entrepreneurs Association, expressed sympathy for the losses suffered by Gia Lai residents.

She said the initiative aimed not only to provide material support but also to promote solidarity, respect and community spirit in overcoming hardship.

Organisers said the programme underscores the role of women entrepreneurs’ associations in mobilising social resources and highlights their commitment to supporting communities during difficult times.
