Since 2022, Youth Unions across the province have implemented the “Digital Transformation Saturday” programme, organising 210 activities that drew more than 53,870 participants.
The efforts supported citizens in submitting online public service applications, installing VNeID, using digital signatures and adopting cashless payments.
The rollout of the project “Promoting the role of youth members in delivering level 3 and 4 online public services for the 2022-2027 period” has further enabled young people to participate actively in local digitalisation.
Gia Lai currently maintains 145 Youth Digital Technology Teams with 2,251 members, along with 58 online public service support teams involving 748 youth members.
From 2022 to 2025, these teams assisted 292,000 citizens in registering digital signatures, 341,000 in opening electronic payment accounts, 228,000 in activating VNeID and processing 101,000 online public service applications.
Digital literacy efforts have expanded through 12 training classes for nearly 2,500 residents and 43 “AI literacy” classes for more than 10,500 young people.
Youth-led innovation has also grown across communities, with models such as “Cashless markets,” “digital neighborhood groups” and digitalisation of historical sites gaining traction.
Phạm Hồng Hiệp, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Gia Lai and Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, said Youth Unions have actively renewed their approaches to encourage young people to apply technology according to local needs. He added that future efforts will continue to support youth contributions to digital transformation and socio-economic development.
Grassroots Youth Unions have adapted digital transformation models to local conditions. In Pleiku, the ward’s Youth Union formed five digital support groups, including one stationed at the Public Administration Service Center and four operating across residential areas to assist with VNeID installation, data updates and digital commerce.
The unit has also coordinated the “cashless market” model at Hoa Lu and Phu Dong markets, working with BIDV Gia Lai to generate QR codes and guide vendors in using electronic payment methods. Upcoming plans include supporting online tax filing through teams comprising bank staff, youth representatives and tax officers.
In Tuy Phuoc Bac commune, digital transformation efforts are linked to social welfare. The “Digital companions - action for the elderly” team assists seniors in submitting online applications, while an additional application reception point at the Commune Party Committee headquarters helps ease congestion at the local Public Administration Service Center. Youth members also visit people with disabilities to help them complete procedures via the National Public Service Portal.
Nguyễn Trung Tín, Deputy Secretary of the Tuy Phuoc Bac Commune Youth Union, said the priority is ensuring that vulnerable groups are not left behind, adding that residents feel more secure when receiving direct guidance at home or at reception points.
In the tourism sector, the Youth Union of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has digitised 20 historical sites and tourist attractions and created more than 40 AI-generated virtual tour videos.
The unit also cooperated to develop the “Binh Dinh Traditional Martial Arts Digital Map”, and has trained locals via livestream sessions to promote agricultural and culinary products on e-commerce platforms.
Phạm Hữu Phước, Secretary of the department’s Youth Union, said digital transformation spans far beyond administrative procedures, noting that digital mapping, communication products and tourism promotion are helping enhance visitor experiences and support residents in marketing local goods.
