Gia Lai presses investors to speed up urban projects as province targets strong growth

Gia Lai province is tightening oversight of major urban area and residential housing projects as it pushes to meet its goal of double-digit GRDP growth from 2025 to 2030.

Provincial leaders have warned that investors failing to meet their committed timelines may face administrative action, including possible revocation of approvals.

Throughout February, the Provincial People’s Committee held a series of reviews to assess progress across dozens of projects. Nguyễn Tự Công Hoàng, Vice Chairman of the PPC, said the province is shifting its investment management approach, moving beyond removing obstacles to enforcing discipline, assigning clear responsibilities, and holding investors accountable for each project milestone.

According to the reports, Gia Lai has implemented administrative reforms, strengthened project supervision and worked to improve the investment environment. Several developers have advanced on schedule, with some projects already operational and contributing to local socio-economic development.

Among the on-track developments are the Simona Heights apartment project in Quy Nhơn Ward and IEC Residences Quy Nhơn in Quy Nhơn Bắc Ward.

Hoàng Việt Anh, Chief Strategy Officer of Phù Mỹ - Quy Nhơn Construction Investment Co., Ltd., said Simona Heights topped out in January and is scheduled for completion and handover by late 2026. The project includes on-site resettlement for 83 households and compensation for more than 2,600 m² of public assets, supporting urban renewal.

Similarly, Trương Đại Quí, Project Management Director of IEC Construction and Electromechanical JSC, said the CT2 building of IEC Residences Quy Nhơn held its topping-out ceremony in early February, with residents expected to move in during the fourth quarter of 2026.

However, several investors have been flagged for slow progress, weak coordination and limited implementation capacity. Lê Anh Sơn, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, said his agency has been assigned to monitor all non-budget urban and residential projects. Monthly assessments will clarify responsibilities of investors and related units to ensure adherence to commitments.

The Provincial People's Committee has also ordered accelerated planning procedures. Projects lacking detailed plans must complete 1/500-scale construction planning within February 2026, followed by public disclosure and community consultation.
