At the launch ceremony, the Red Cross delegation presented 600 Tet gift packages to poor and near-poor households, people facing hardship, victims of natural disasters, people with disabilities, elderly people living alone, orphans and other disadvantaged groups. Each package was valued at 600,000 VND (about USD 24).
The “Tet of Compassion” programme for the Year of the Horse 2026 aims to promote solidarity and compassion while mobilising support from communities, businesses and philanthropists. The programme focuses on assisting poor and near-poor families, households in difficult circumstances, people affected by Agent Orange, people with disabilities, patients facing hardship, families hit by natural disasters in 2025 and those unable to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
Under the plan, provincial Red Cross chapters aim to distribute at least 60,750 Tet gift packages, each worth a minimum of 500,000 VND (about USD 20), including cash and essential goods. Each provincial-level “Tet of Compassion” programme is expected to provide at least 500 gift packages valued at 600,000 VND (about USD 24) each. In addition, every commune and ward is encouraged to organise at least one local programme benefiting a minimum of 200 people, with each gift valued at no less than 500,000 VND (about USD 20).
The programme will be implemented province-wide from now until February 10, 2026. The Gia Lai Provincial Red Cross Society has issued guidance to local chapters, communes, wards and affiliated units to roll out activities in line with local conditions and available resources.
Local units are stepping up communications about the programme, coordinating with media agencies to publicise its objectives and significance, reporting results in a timely manner and highlighting exemplary organisations and individuals. Where feasible, they are also encouraged to organise “fairs, gift-giving and Tet celebrations” in suitable formats and scales.
