Authorities in Gia Lai are accelerating construction and land clearance efforts for major transport infrastructure projects, including the second runway at Phu Cat Airport and strategic road links connecting industrial zones and ports, provincial officials said following a site inspection on May 11.

Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, directed agencies, contractors and local authorities to intensify coordination and mobilize additional resources to ensure projects are completed on schedule.

During the inspection, officials reviewed progress on the road linking the North-South Expressway to Phu My Industrial Park and Phu My Port, the western road in Phu Cat District connecting Hoa Hoi Industrial Park to the area near Phu Cat Airport, and the construction of Runway No. 2 and related facilities at Phu Cat Airport.

At the airport project, more than 800 engineers, workers and staff are operating in continuous “three shifts, four crews” rotations from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. to speed up construction.

According to the Provincial Project Management Board for Transport and Civil Works, the site currently has 31 active construction fronts and hundreds of machines in operation. About 3.65 million cubic metres of earthwork have been completed, with 1.55 million cubic metres remaining.

Dacinco Construction Investment Co., Ltd., one of the project’s three main contractors, has deployed 190 earth-moving vehicles and 20 internal transport vehicles. The company said it expects to complete the main construction volume within days and finish all remaining works by the end of June 2026.

The runway project, originally scheduled for completion within 12 months from its September 2, 2025 groundbreaking, is now being accelerated to bring the facility into operation earlier than planned.

Authorities expect earthwork within the runway area to finish by May 15, 2026, with external earthwork completed by May 30. The remaining 1,600 metres of graded stone foundation is due for completion by June 5, while concrete paving for the runway and taxiways is targeted for completion by June 30.

Installation of aviation equipment will proceed alongside runway paving works and is expected to conclude by the end of June, with calibration flights planned for July 2026.

For the road connecting the North-South Expressway to Phu My Industrial Park and Phu My Port, officials said land clearance remains a priority. The project affects 490 households and two organisations across West Phu My, Binh Duong and East Phu My communes, covering nearly 78 hectares of recovered land.

Authorities said land origin verification and compensation plans have been completed for about 90% of affected cases in Phu My Tay, 100% in Binh Duong and 99% in Phu My Dong. Compensation approvals and payments have reached about 90% in Binh Duong and 40% in East Phu My.

Construction work is also progressing simultaneously across project sections. Contractors in Package 1 have removed weathered soil across more than 2 km, completed three culverts and built sections of the K95 roadbed. In Package 2, crews are working on box culverts, bored piles and bridge beam casting for Hoc Nhan Lake Bridge.

Meanwhile, for the western road project in Phu Cat District, authorities have completed compensation and handed over 9.52 km of the project’s 9.72 km length to contractors. Construction teams have completed excavation work across 5.5 km and built 3.5 km of roadbed while continuing work on bridges including Suoi Duc Bridge and Hoi Van 2 Bridge.

During the inspection, Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang reviewed unresolved compensation and site clearance issues and instructed relevant agencies to promptly address outstanding obstacles.

He praised the efforts of project investors, contractors, local authorities and government departments in coordinating construction and overcoming implementation challenges.

The Vice Chairman said the projects play an important role in improving regional connectivity, supporting trade and driving socio-economic growth in the province. He instructed agencies and contractors to maintain strict oversight of project quality, labour safety and environmental standards while ensuring continuous construction progress.

For the runway project in particular, he ordered that the main runway construction be substantially completed by June 30, 2026, to enable calibration flights the following month.
