On the evening of January 8, the Student Association of Quy Nhon University held a ceremony to commemorate the anniversary and honour recipients of the university-level “Five-Good Student” title.
Addressing the event, Bui Tuan Kiet, President of the Vietnam Student Association at Quy Nhon University, recalled the origins of the movement during the anti-colonial student protests of 1949–1950. He said the sacrifice of student Tran Van On on January 9, 1950, ignited nationwide resistance and led to the date being recognised as the Traditional Day of Vietnamese Students.
“Over the past 76 years, that flame has never been extinguished,” Kiet said, adding that Vietnamese students, including those at Quy Nhon University, have continued to affirm their role as a pioneering force in mastering science and technology and integrating internationally.
Among the 25 students awarded the “Five-Good Student” title, Ho Anh Tuyet of the Faculty of Primary and Preschool Education said the recognition reflected daily self-improvement through study, research, skills development and community volunteering in the context of globalisation.
The anniversary was also marked by cultural and grassroots activities. The “Youth Dance – Shine with Passion” contest, organised by the Quy Nhon Ward Youth Union on December 30, attracted large numbers of high school students. The ward’s Youth Union honoured 25 outstanding students for volunteer contributions to the “For the Community” campaign in the 2025–2026 academic year.
At the provincial level, the 2025 Festival of Clubs, Teams and Groups, held on December 27 and 28 by the Gia Lai Provincial Youth Union and the Vietnam Student Association of Gia Lai, aimed to strengthen skills, connections and a sense of responsibility among students. Ly Anh Viet, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Youth Union, said the festival provided opportunities for students to showcase their abilities, nurture passions and build closer ties with youth organisations.
Student achievements in science, technology and culture were also highlighted. Representing more than 1,500 students at FPT University’s Quy Nhon campus, three Artificial Intelligence majors—Ho Duy Hung, Le Quang Vinh and Nguyen Trung Hieu—won second prize at the inaugural Vietnam Student AI Olympiad in 2025. Le Quang Vinh said the nationwide competition had inspired students to pursue their passion and confidence in the AI field.
In another achievement, Nguyen Thi Hoang Nguyen and two students from the Faculty of Economics and Tourism at Quang Trung University won a consolation prize at the Gen Tea 2025 competition during the International Tea Festival in Lam Dong. Nguyen said the project reflected the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of Gia Lai students in promoting Vietnamese tea culture amid global integration.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, the provincial Youth Union and Student Association awarded the provincial-level “Five-Good Student” title to 30 students from universities and colleges across Gia Lai.
Le Quoc Dung, the sole recipient from the Gia Lai campus of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, said the title recognised sustained efforts in study, training and volunteer service.
Nguyen Chi Hieu, Deputy Secretary of the Gia Lai Provincial Youth Union and President of the Vietnam Student Association of Gia Lai, said the honour acknowledged students’ serious and responsible contributions, while encouraging them to continue spreading the values of dedication, learning and service to the community.
