With less than 48 hours remaining, Gia Lai province has completed final preparations for the opening ceremony of National Tourism Year 2026, a large-scale artistic event expected to attract around 50,000 spectators at Nguyen Tat Thanh Square in Quy Nhon Ward.

Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich confirmed during an inspection on March 26 that all key components, from stage construction and technical systems to audience arrangements and delegate reception, are in place.

Comprehensive contingency plans covering security, traffic management, fire prevention and medical response have been deployed, with police, healthcare teams, rescue forces and volunteers on standby throughout the event.

A full dress rehearsal is scheduled for March 27, ahead of the official opening on the evening of March 28.

Organisers say the ceremony is designed not only as a formal launch but also as a strategic showcase of Gia Lai’s ambition to position tourism as a key economic driver. The event serves as a test of the province’s capacity to host large-scale, high-impact programmes with precision and minimal risk.

According to Tran Viet Anh, Chairman of the Gia Lai Tourism Association, the programme introduces a new approach to tourism events, combining modern staging with cultural storytelling. The main stage follows an “infinity” design, equipped with an international-standard sound system and large LED screens to create a multi-layered performance environment.

In a notable expansion, performances will extend to a live-action seaside stage, where elements of the traditional “cầu ngư” festival will be recreated using sound, lighting and artistic fireworks. This dual setting is intended to connect the highlands and the sea, reinforcing the province’s “highlands–blue sea” identity.

The programme consists of four interconnected artistic chapters tracing a journey from the highlands to the coast. Around 700 performers, including artists, dancers, circus acts and supporting cast, will take part, supported by continuous visual and technical integration to ensure a seamless audience experience.

Production representatives said the show balances traditional cultural elements with modern technology, aiming to present local heritage in a more accessible and engaging format, particularly for younger audiences.

In the lead-up to the event, artists have gathered in Quy Nhon for rehearsals, adapting to the complex, multi-layered stage design. Performers described the production scale as significantly more demanding than conventional shows, requiring heightened focus to deliver precise performances.

Beyond performance, the event is also positioned as a promotional platform. Artists’ positive impressions of Quy Nhon’s scenery, climate and cuisine are expected to contribute to destination branding, particularly among younger travellers.

Officials emphasise that the opening ceremony marks the starting point of Gia Lai’s long-term tourism strategy. By leveraging its combined highland and coastal assets, the province aims to develop distinctive tourism products that integrate nature, culture and modern experiences.
