Gia Lai hosts finals of 5th English talent contest for high school students

The Department of Education and Training (DOET) of Gia Lai Province on Sunday opened the final round of the 5th “English Talent” contest for general education students, drawing 30 finalists selected from nearly 850 initial contestants.

The one-day final, held on December 14 at Hoang Yen Hotel in Quy Nhon Nam Ward, marked the culmination of two earlier rounds, including grassroots competitions and semifinals involving 127 students.

Finalists competed according to their educational level, with each contestant given five minutes to demonstrate English-language proficiency through presentations, skits, short plays or dubbing performances. They then drew a real-life communication scenario and had two minutes to present a solution and respond to follow-up questions from judges.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Trần Bá Công, Deputy Director of the provincial DOET, said the competition’s fifth edition, now expanded to Gia Lai Province, continues to attract strong interest from students, teachers, education administrators and supporters of English teaching and learning both inside and outside the province.

He said the contest aims to promote English learning while helping to build and strengthen an environment for teaching and using foreign languages.

Organizers said the event also serves as a healthy and inspiring platform for students to develop a passion for learning and practicing English, contributing to the growth of foreign language education in Gia Lai Province and equipping students with skills needed for international integration.
