(GLO) – Gia Lai province is stepping up efforts to improve education for ethnic minority communities by investing heavily in boarding and semi-boarding school infrastructure.

The projects aim to provide modern facilities, enhance learning environments, and reduce educational disparities in disadvantaged areas.

State-of-the-art schools transform student life

An Lao ethnic minority boarding secondary and high School in An Lao commune has emerged as a flagship model. The school’s multi-story buildings, green campus, and well-equipped classrooms reflect the province’s commitment to quality education.

From 2023 to 2025, the school received over VND 10 billion under Sub-project 1 of the national target program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas (2021-2025).

Investments funded a traditional activities room, a multi-purpose gym, a three-story classroom block, administrative offices, practice rooms, and dormitories accommodating 215 secondary and 40 high school students.

Additionally, the school now has 40 computers, 27 televisions, 20 sliding boards, bunk beds, and lockers, all meeting national standards.

Đinh Thị Như Trang, a Grade 9 student of the H’re ethnic group, described the transformation: “Previously, twelve of us shared a cramped room with old wooden beds. Now, our new dorm has bunk beds and personal lockers. It’s comfortable and makes us feel secure while studying”.

Expanding Boarding Facilities Across the Province

At An Lão Ethnic Minority semi-boarding secondary school, sub-project 1 enabled construction of a new two-story building for the 2024–2025 school year, including four classrooms, grade 9 teaching equipment, and audiovisual systems for online learning.

This project resolved classroom shortages and created a modern, safe environment for students and teachers.

In Vân Canh commune, Canh Thuận semi-boarding secondary school received over VND 7 billion in 2024 to build a two-story boarding facility with 10 dorm rooms, upgrade the dining hall, and repair fences and wells.

Completed in May 2025, the renovations provide students with clean, comfortable accommodations. Vice Principal Trần Ngọc Bích said, “Safe and well-equipped boarding facilities motivate students, support enrollment, and enhance education quality.”

Targeted investments to boost educational quality

Gia Lai’s Department of Education and Training has prioritized strategic investments, avoiding scattered spending and ensuring projects are completed quickly for maximum impact.

Since 2022, sub-project 1 has supported the repair and construction of 28 ethnic minority boarding and semi-boarding schools, providing 119 computer sets, 145 sliding boards, 439 bunk beds, and 155 personal lockers.

Phạm Văn Nam, Director of the Department of Education and Training, said future plans will focus on upgrading facilities, particularly digital infrastructure, in remote and mountainous areas.

Nguyễn Xuân Việt, Chairman of Vân Canh Commune, emphasized continued investment in schools that have not yet met national standards and mobilizing community resources to narrow education gaps.

In An Lão commune, the projects have not only modernized facilities but also boosted students’ confidence and motivation.

Phan Hoài Vũ, Secretary of the An Lão Commune Party Committee, highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance student activity spaces and boarding facilities while encouraging local community and organizational support.
