The Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon project (Gia Lai province) is one of the component projects of the North-South Expressway, part of the construction of the eastern North-South Expressway during the 2021-2025 period.
The Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon expressway project commenced on January 1, 2023, and according to the contract, is scheduled for completion on December 16, after nearly two years of construction.
The Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon expressway section has a total length of 70.1 km, located entirely within Gia Lai province (formerly Binh Dinh province), with a total investment of over VND 12,400 billion. The project is managed by Project Management Board 85 under the Ministry of Transport.
The Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon project consists of two contract packages: Package 11-XL, from Km0+00 to Km23+500, constructed by Truong Son Construction Corporation; and Package 12-XL, from Km23+500 to Km70+091, executed by a consortium including Son Hai Group Co., Ltd., Phuc Loc Group JSC, Civil Engineering Construction Corporation No. 8, Truong Thinh Group JSC, and 471 JSC.
The entire Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon expressway features five interchanges: with Provincial Road 629, Phu My Interchange, Provincial Road 634, National Highway 19B, and National Highway 19.
According to Project Management Board 85, contract package 12-XL (from Km23+500 to Km70+091), executed by the contractor consortium, has met the required progress. To date, the package has basically completed the construction of bridges, culverts, underpasses, and the main roadbed and pavement sections.
Currently, contract package 12-XL has completed the traffic safety items, meeting the technical opening schedule set for August 19, 2025.
As for contract package 11-XL (from Km0+00 to Km23+500), Truong Son Construction Corporation faced difficulties, with the construction of a 2.8 km forest-crossing section delayed by eight months compared to the plan. This was due to the National Assembly Standing Committee only approving the change of forest land use in October 2024, and the prolonged rainy season in 2024 after the construction site was handed over.
Project Management Board 85 also stated that it is currently coordinating with the Traffic Safety Board (Gia Lai Department of Construction), the Traffic Police Department, and route management units to review the system of signs, signal lights, guardrails, barriers, and drainage ditches to ensure absolute traffic safety when the expressway is put into operation.
The endpoint of the Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon expressway section is the Son Trieu mountain tunnel, part of contract package 11-XL of the Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh expressway. The tunnel construction began on November 1, 2023, and is expected to be completed by June 2025, three months ahead of schedule.
The Son Trieu tunnel passes through An Nhon Nam ward and Tuy Phuoc Tay commune. It includes two tunnel portals and tunnel tubes. The total length of the Son Trieu tunnel is 960 meters, with the right tube measuring 535 meters and the left tube 600 meters.
