Cambodia’s Stung Treng and Vietnam’s Gia Lai deepen investment ties with new cooperation agreements

Held in Stung Treng City, the event brought together senior officials from both provinces, representatives from Cambodian ministries, leaders from neighboring provinces including Ratanakiri, Preah Vihear and Mondulkiri, as well as business associations and enterprises.

Among the attendees were Sem Vi Rek, Permanent Secretary of State at Cambodia’s Ministry of Economy and Finance; Stung Treng Governor Sor Soputra; Chairman of the Stung Treng Provincial Council Chheang Lak; and Nguyễn Tuấn Thanh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Gia Lai province, accompanied by provincial officials and business representatives.

Governor Sor Soputra said the conference reflected the traditional friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam, particularly between Stung Treng and Gia Lai. He highlighted the province’s potential in agriculture, forestry, hydropower, cross-border trade and eco-cultural-historical tourism, expressing confidence that the gathering would create new opportunities for dialogue and investment cooperation.

He said the Stung Treng provincial administration was committed to supporting investors and protecting their legitimate interests.

Nguyễn Tuấn Thanh said cooperation with northeastern Cambodian provinces, including Stung Treng, formed an important part of Gia Lai’s strategy for foreign economic development, investment promotion, trade and people-to-people exchanges.

He said Stung Treng’s advantages in land resources and natural assets complemented Gia Lai’s strengths in infrastructure connectivity, processing industries, logistics and market access, creating conditions for new value chains in agriculture, agro-forestry processing, energy, trade, services and border economic development.

The two provinces agreed to enhance information sharing on planning and priority projects, support businesses seeking cooperation opportunities and encourage investment in sectors including high-tech agriculture, raw material development, processing industries, renewable energy, mining, construction, tourism and agro-forestry resources.

Nguyễn Tuấn Thanh said memoranda of understanding signed at the conference reflected the confidence and commitment of Stung Treng authorities and Vietnamese enterprises, while providing a basis for further studies and project development in line with legal frameworks and local planning.

Delegates and investors also agreed to strengthen coordination mechanisms between the two provincial governments to monitor and resolve challenges arising during project implementation.

Both sides pledged to expand information on investment opportunities and preferential policies, promote cooperation between public and private sectors, strengthen business networks and improve workforce training and technical exchanges.

Maintaining peace, security and social stability in border areas and promoting environmentally responsible and sustainable development were also identified as priorities.

During the conference, the Stung Treng provincial government signed a memorandum of understanding with Phu Tai Joint Stock Company to study a project to plant 10,000 hectares of large timber forests, with an estimated investment of VND1 trillion (about US$38.3 million).

Separately, the Vietnam Youth Federation of Gia Lai province and the Youth Federation of Stung Treng province signed a cooperation agreement for 2026-2030 aimed at establishing twinning relations, promoting friendship exchanges and expanding cooperation in youth affairs.

Later the same day, the Gia Lai delegation conducted field surveys of potential investment sites and visited the production and business activities of several Gia Lai enterprises operating in Stung Treng Province.
