Students across Vietnam are being inducted into the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Young Pioneer Organization at revolutionary historical sites, as part of efforts to strengthen patriotism and civic responsibility among young people.

The ceremonies, held at so-called “red addresses”, locations tied to the country’s revolutionary history, combine formal inductions with experiential learning, offering students direct engagement with national heritage.

On March 16, the Standing Committee of the Ân Tường Commune Youth Union organized a “Visiting Red Addresses – Inducting New Union Members” program at the memorial stele and mass grave of fallen soldiers at Xuan Son Hill. The event brought together 70 students from Tran Quang Dieu High School and Ân Hữu Secondary School.

Organizing induction ceremonies for Youth Union and Young Pioneer members at “red addresses” has become a regular activity implemented by many Youth Union and Young Pioneer organizations in the province in recent years.

This helps guide students towards proper motivation in their studies and self-improvement, gradually nurturing exemplary, responsible members who contribute to the community and society.”

Ahead of the ceremony, participants offered incense and flowers to commemorate fallen soldiers, took part in site clean-up activities, and learned about local history. Thirty students were formally admitted to the Youth Union during the event.

“I have participated in cleaning activities here many times, but being inducted into the Youth Union at this site is a very special feeling,” said Nguyen Thi Minh Hang, a student at Tran Quang Dieu High School. “It motivates me to keep striving in both my studies and volunteer work”.

Similar initiatives have been carried out in other schools. In late February, Nguyen Trai High School organized a “return to the roots” program at a provincial revolutionary historical site in Krong Commune, where 30 students were inducted after visiting exhibitions detailing the area’s role as a wartime base.

“Being inducted here is a memorable milestone”, said Pham Thi Phuong Vy, a class leader at the school. “I will continue to improve myself to be worthy of the sacrifices of previous generations”.

School officials say holding ceremonies at historical sites enhances students’ understanding of national history. “These journeys help students develop a deeper awareness of local history, fostering patriotism and a sense of responsibility to contribute to the community”, said Hoang Sy Tuan, Secretary of the Youth Union at Nguyen Trai High School.

The approach is also being applied at primary level. In January, 124 third-grade students from Tran Dai Nghia Primary School were inducted into the Young Pioneer Organization at Pleiku Prison Camp, a provincial historical site.

During the visit, students learned about the resilience and sacrifices of revolutionary soldiers. “We were very moved by the stories shared by our teachers,” said student Ho Hoang Phuc. “We will study well and take part actively in Young Pioneer activities”.

Educators say integrating induction ceremonies with visits to historical sites provides students with practical, immersive lessons in history while reinforcing values of patriotism and social responsibility from an early age.
