An amateur photographer from the United Kingdom has won the top prize at the 2026 Photographer of the Year competition with a striking image captured in Vietnam, organisers announced.

Sophia Spurgin secured first place with her photograph titled “Fish Eyes”, selected from more than 14,500 entries submitted across 14 categories, including landscape, portrait and travel. The competition is organised annually by the London Camera Exchange (LCE) in London.

The photograph "Fish Eyes" earned amateur photographer Sophia Spurgin the competition's highest honor.

The winning image depicts a fisherman in Hội An during an everyday moment that turned unexpectedly creative. While travelling with her family, Spurgin captured the scene as the fisherman playfully held two freshly caught fish up to his face. The fish aligned with his eyes, forming a symmetrical and visually compelling composition.

The title “Fish Eyes” reflects both the literal subject and a humorous twist, enhancing the photograph’s appeal.

The Photographer of the Year competition is open to both amateur and professional photographers and spans a wide range of genres, including macro and street photography. Total prizes for this year’s awards are valued at £10,000 (over 100 million VND, approximately $4,000).
