Gia Lai aims to complete durian traceability system by end of 2026

Authorities in Vietnam’s Gia Lai province aim to complete the implementation of traceability systems for durian products across the province by the end of 2026, according to Plan No. 194/KH-UBND on agricultural product traceability.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen food safety management and improve transparency in agricultural production and distribution.

Provincial authorities are also promoting awareness campaigns to highlight the importance and benefits of agricultural product traceability among agencies, businesses, organisations and individuals.

Under the plan, Gia Lai will compile a list of agricultural products requiring traceability, prioritising food products and the province’s key agricultural commodities.

For the 2027–2030 period, the province will continue reviewing and selecting agricultural products for inclusion in the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment’s Agricultural Product Traceability System. The selection process will align with lists of mandatory and priority products issued by the ministry while reflecting local conditions.

The province also plans to collect and standardise agricultural data to support traceability activities and deploy digital solutions to improve the management process. Gia Lai’s traceability database will be connected and synchronised with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment’s traceability system as well as the National Goods Traceability Information Portal.

In parallel, authorities will disseminate official guidance and technical documents on agricultural product traceability issued by the ministry and other relevant agencies, with the aim of ensuring effective local implementation.

Organisations, businesses and individuals involved in agricultural production and trading are being encouraged to participate in and adopt the ministry’s traceability system.

The traceability programme will apply to agricultural products managed by the agriculture and environment sector, covering the entire supply chain from production and harvesting to processing, preservation, transportation and consumption.

Priority will be given to food products, key agricultural commodities, export-oriented products, products participating in value chains and agricultural goods considered high-risk and requiring stricter quality and origin control.

To achieve these goals, the Gia Lai Provincial People’s Committee has identified five key groups of tasks and solutions. These include strengthening communication and awareness campaigns, standardising traceability data for selected agricultural products and implementing the ministry’s agricultural product traceability system.

The province will also prepare resources for implementation, establish links with national traceability systems and strengthen inspection and supervision activities in accordance with existing regulations.
