Vietnam secured nine places in TIME magazine’s 2026 list of the Asia-Pacific’s top 500 companies, with Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) emerging as one of the most notable entrants following a dramatic financial turnaround.

The annual ranking, compiled by TIME in partnership with data research firm Statista, evaluates companies on revenue growth, employee satisfaction and transparency in sustainable development (ESG). Vietnamese firms featured this year met stringent benchmarks across those criteria.

Leading the Vietnamese cohort were Vingroup, ranked 57th, and Vinhomes at 352nd. Both continued to dominate in financial scale in 2025. Vingroup reported record revenue and post-tax profit of VND 11,146 billion (approximately USD 445.8 million), while Vinhomes posted net profit of VND 42,111 billion (around USD 1.68 billion).

In technology and retail, the FPT ecosystem contributed two names. FPT Corporation placed 146th with a score of 86.06, reflecting sustained growth in its technology segment, which closed 2025 with post-tax profit of VND 9,369 billion (about USD 374.8 million). FPT Retail ranked 393rd with 79.44 points, buoyed by the Long Châu pharmacy chain and pre-tax profit exceeding VND 1,219 billion (roughly USD 48.8 million).

The banking and finance sector maintained a strong presence through two “Big 4” lenders. BIDV ranked 280th with 82.75 points, reporting pre-tax profit of VND 37,863 billion (approximately USD 1.51 billion). VietinBank stood at 461st with 75.55 points, posting pre-tax profit of VND 43,446 billion (around USD 1.74 billion). Their scale and profitability were cited as key factors in meeting TIME’s standards.

The ranking also reflected a rebound among consumer and transportation companies. Masan Group secured 411th place with 78.65 points, ending 2025 with post-tax profit attributable to parent shareholders of VND 6,764 billion (about USD 270.6 million), up 58% following retail chain optimisation.

Vietnam Airlines ranked 472nd with 74.37 points after a year of comprehensive restructuring. The national carrier returned to profitability, reporting post-tax profit of VND 7,713 billion (around USD 308.5 million), signalling a robust recovery in the aviation sector.

The most striking debut came from Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group, led by Chairman Đoàn Nguyên Đức, which entered the list at 497th with 72.52 points. In 2025, HAGL recorded a historic post-tax profit of VND 2,243 billion (approximately USD 89.7 million), erasing accumulated losses and lifting total assets beyond USD 1 billion.

Beyond financial performance, HAGL ranked 440th in ESG transparency, supported by its transition to Global GAP-standard agricultural models. The company also underscored employee welfare after its chairman gifted 160 apartments valued between VND 2–8 billion each (around USD 80,000–320,000) to key staff, highlighting what it described as a tangible recovery after years of restructuring.
